Fire hoods test for Protective clothing

This standard specifies the minimum safety requirements and test methods for a firehood worn by a firefighter following a user risk assessment. When worn with protective clothing, breathing apparatus and helmet the design features and performance requirements of the hood are intended to provide protection to the exposed areas of the head and neck against heat and flame. 
 
Sampling and pre-treatment:
1、The number and size of specimens for the different tests shall be in accordance with the respective standard.
2、The material or component assembly shall be pre-treated by washing and drying 5 times in accordance with procedures 3A (at 60 ± 3)OC and E of EN ISO 6330. 
 
Performance requirements:
1、Performance requirements - Material or component assembly
①、General
The following requirements shall be satisfied after sampling specified in 5.1 and pre treatment specified in 5.2.
②、Flame spread
The material, component assembly, closure system or accessory shall be tested for flame spread in accordance with EN ISO 15025 method A and a limited flame spread index 3 of EN 533 shall be achieved and no specimen shall give hole formation in any layer. 
No specimen containing a seam shall permit the seam to open.
③、Heat transfer (flame)
The material or component assembly shall give a Heat Transfer Index HTI24 ~ 8 s and a (HTb4 - HT112) ~ 3 s,when tested in accordance with EN 367. The value quoted is the lowest single result rounded to 0,1 s.
④、Heat transfer (radiation)
The material or component assembly shall give a t24 ~ 11, and a (t24 - t12)~ 3, when tested in accordance with EN ISO 6942 method B at a heat flux density of 20 kW/m2,. The value quoted is the lowest single result rounded to 0,1s.
⑤、Residual strength of material when exposed to radiant heat
Two specimens taken from the material or component assembly shall have a burst strength ~ 300 kPa, after pretreatment of the material by EN ISO 6942 method A at a heat flux density of 10 kW/m2, when tested in accordance with EN ISO 13938-1 using a test area of 7,3 cm 2 and a testing time to burst of (30 ± 10) s.
⑥、Heat resistance
Each material, component assembly, closure system and accessory shall not melt, drip, ignite, or break and shall
not shrink more than 10 % at a temperature of (260 1(:)) °C when tested to ISO 17493 with the following deviation: after removal from the test oven the test specimens shall not be stretched before measuring dimensional change.
⑦、Seam breaking strength
One specimen of each seam type used in the construction of the firehood shall have a burst strength of ~ 450 kPa when tested in accordance with EN ISO 13938-1 using a test area of 7,3 cm 2 and a testing time to burst of(30 ± 10) s.
⑧、Dimensional change
The material or component assembly shall have a dimensional change s 5% when tested in accordance with EN 25077, using the pre-treatment specified in 5.2.
 
2、Performance requirements .. Complete Firehood 
①、General
When tested in accordance with annex A, the firehood shall meet the requirements of 6.2.2 to 6.2.4, using a breathing apparatus face mask complying with EN 136 Type 3 with which the hood is stated to be compatible by the manufacturer.
Annex A - Donning, doffing and shape retention test - specifies the normative procedure for compliance with some design requirements. This procedure utilises a human headform as specified in annex A.
When tested in accordance with annex B, the requirements of 6.2.3 and 6.2.4 shall be met.
Annex B - Practical performance test - specifies the normative procedure utilising test subjects to don and doff the firehood and to wear related items of PPE so as to evaluate any deterioration of the firehood and compatibility with these other items. 
②、The firehood shall retain its shape and fit when compared to a firehood fitted to the headform once only for the first time.
③、The interface area between the hood and the breathing apparatus facemask shall be maintained.
④、There shall be no breaks in the construction e.g. at seams or eiasticated closure systems etc.
