Steps:
1. Set the control mode switch to the automatic position.
2. Prepare your test sample and install it in the appropriate bracket in the test room of the instrument.
3. If possible, place the burner below the sample according to your test method.
4. On the AGC, open the main gas shut-off valve by lifting up the toggle lever until the toggle lever points outward from the panel.
Note: Open this valve to allow gas to enter the pilot burner, and the pilot must be ignited immediately.
5. Ignite the pilot burner.
6. Close the door of the instrument room.
7. Press the timer reset button below the running time display on the AGC. If the display is counting, press the timer start button to turn it off. Press the timer reset button to make the display zero.
8. To start the test, press the burner start button and timer start button on the AGC at the same time. (The correct operation will be indicated by the illumination of the two switches. If neither of them is lit, press the timer start switch to turn off the light, and press the timer reset button below the running time display. Press the two start switches again at the same time to start test.
9. When the timer indicates 15 seconds (HMV) or 12 seconds (VFC), the burner will go out. You can let the elapsed time display continue counting by pressing the timer start button and stop it as needed. You can also use the timer start button to stop it, use the timer reset switch to reset it to zero, and restart it by pressing the timer start button to time the burn event. Press the timer start button again to stop it.
10. Use the running time display described above or use the handheld event timer provided by AGC to time the required events.
11. Additional tests can be performed by repeating steps 6-8 above.
12. When you finish using AGC, always close the main gas shut-off valve by pushing the switch lever to the completely downward position (not pointing out of the panel). Cut off the gas supply to your fuel tank or equipment. By moving the control mode switch to the center position, the AGC is turned off electrically.
