I. Test Procedure
The test shall be conducted under atmospheric conditions with a temperature of 10°C to 30°C and a relative humidity of 20% to 65%.

Wearing protective gloves, remove one test specimen from the conditioning atmosphere or desiccator. For pile carpet specimens, brush the pile upright in the direction opposite to the pile lay.
Position the specimen flat on the bottom plate of the test chamber with the use surface facing upward. Place the metal template on top of the specimen, ensuring that all four edges are aligned with those of the specimen.
Place one standard tablet horizontally at the center of the specimen. Ignite the tablet by gently touching its surface with the flame of a lit match or igniter. If burn time measurement is required, start the stopwatch immediately. Care should be taken to ensure that the match or igniter flame does not come into direct contact with the specimen.
(1) The time interval between removing the specimen from the conditioning chamber or desiccator and igniting the tablet shall not exceed 2 minutes. If this period exceeds 2 minutes, another specimen shall be selected and the procedure described in Steps 3–5 shall be repeated.
(2) If the tablet cracks or fractures during ignition, the test result shall be considered invalid.
Allow the ignited flame, together with any subsequent flame spread, to continue burning until extinction. The test shall be terminated when either of the following conditions is met:
The flame extinguishes naturally; or
Flaming or smoldering combustion reaches any edge of the opening in the metal template.
Once either condition occurs, stop the stopwatch immediately and switch on the fume hood exhaust system to remove smoke and toxic gases.
(1) Using a steel ruler, measure the maximum distance from the center of the specimen to the edge of the damaged area. The measurement shall be recorded in millimeters (mm).
(2) Remove the specimen and clean any residue from the bottom plate of the test chamber. Sufficient time shall be allowed between tests to enable the chamber to cool to room temperature ±5°C.
(3) Repeat the procedures specified in Steps 4 and 5 for the remaining seven specimens.
(4) If required, use a timer to measure, in seconds, the time from ignition of the tablet until flaming or smoldering combustion reaches the edge of the opening in the metal template.
II. Testing Requirements
