UL94 Flame Chamber is used to test the vertical burning properties of various types of single or multi-component (coated, quilted, multilayer, laminated products and similar combinations) textile fabrics and industrial products.

UL94 Flame Chamber principle: the test is ignited with a prescribed igniter, simulated flame on the surface or bottom edge of the specimen in the vertical direction for 10s, to determine the flame spread on the specimen to the three marked lines used respectively, as a way to determine the rate of spread.


Each fiber material has its own unique combustion characteristics, such as polyester burning with the phenomenon of molten drops. Different raw materials of different moisture regain rate will also affect the heat absorption and release during combustion. There are studies on polyester, acrylic, nylon, cotton, hemp, silk, wool, the six materials burning the order of heat release and the total amount of heat release. The study shows that the order of heat release of different materials in the combustion test is polyester > silk > cotton > hemp > silk > acrylic > nylon 6. The total amount of heat release per unit mass of textile is: cotton > acrylic > nylon 6 > polyester > hemp > wool > silk. This is due to the fact that natural fibers have a high moisture recovery rate, and the heat absorbed at this stage is mainly used to evaporate the water contained in the textiles themselves, and the textiles begin to exotherm after warming up to the ignition point. Synthetic fibers have a low moisture return rate, which is used to evaporate water and less heat is absorbed. This is also related to the full degree of combustion of textiles.
