Novia Installation Case: Filament Crimp Shrinkage Tester

time:2026-10-23 View:

Customer Background

The customer primarily serves European carpet manufacturers, with exports accounting for approximately 65% of its total sales. Germany, Poland, and Italy together represent more than half of its export revenue. In 2024. to further penetrate the high-end European carpet supply chain, the company launched a laboratory accreditation initiative. Its goal was to ensure that its own test data would be directly accepted by downstream customers, thereby reducing disputes over incoming inspection results.

The company's internal quality control team consists of 11 members. Before the project, the laboratory primarily focused on physical property testing and visual grading, while crimp performance testing had long been a weak point in its testing capabilities.

Problems and Pain Points

Before purchasing the equipment, the company relied primarily on traditional manual methods to test the crimp shrinkage properties of filament yarns. As production volumes increased and testing demands grew, several limitations of the existing testing procedures became apparent.

1. Inconsistent Test Results Due to Manual Operation

Traditional testing methods rely to some extent on the experience of operators and their adherence to standardized procedures. Differences in specimen preparation, control of test conditions, and data reading may lead to variations in test results, affecting comparisons between different production batches.

2. Testing Efficiency Unable to Meet Production Demands

The company needs to conduct quality sampling inspections on filament yarns of different specifications and production batches. Manual testing procedures are relatively time-consuming, making it difficult for the laboratory to keep up with testing demands during periods of concentrated orders or pre-shipment inspections.

3. Inconvenient Data Recording and Traceability

Manually recorded test data require additional organization and verification. When customers request quality documentation or the company conducts internal batch quality analysis, data retrieval and compilation can be inefficient.

4. Need for More Standardized Quality Control

As its export business expands, the company aims to further standardize its filament crimp shrinkage testing procedures, reduce the influence of human factors on test results, and improve the standardization of laboratory quality management.

Based on these requirements, the customer sought to introduce testing equipment with a higher level of automation and more standardized operating procedures.

Solution: Fully Automatic Filament Crimp Shrinkage Teste

After thoroughly understanding the customer's testing requirements, sample types, and laboratory workflow, we recommended a Fully Automatic Filament Crimp Shrinkage Tester for Novatex Filament Industries Ltd. to evaluate the crimp shrinkage properties of filament yarns in the laboratory.

The proposed solution focused on automating testing procedures, standardizing test conditions, and improving data management to address the limitations of traditional testing methods.

The implementation plan included the following measures:

Equipment Configuration: Configure a suitable Fully Automatic Filament Crimp Shrinkage Tester according to the customer's filament sample types and laboratory testing requirements.

Workflow Optimization: Use automated testing functions to reduce repetitive manual operations and improve the standardization of testing procedures.

Operator Training: Introduce the basic operation of the equipment, specimen preparation, testing procedures, and routine maintenance requirements to the customer's laboratory personnel.

Quality Management Support: Recommend establishing a standardized system for sample identification, test records, and result archiving to facilitate subsequent batch comparisons and quality traceability.

After installation, the customer conducted sample testing in accordance with the established test methods and verified the testing procedures against its internal quality control requirements.

Equipment Advantages and Application Results

1. Automated Testing to Improve Work Efficiency

The automated design helps reduce repetitive manual operations, allowing laboratory personnel to focus more on sample management, result verification, and other quality control activities.

2. Standardized Testing Procedures to Improve Result Consistency

Following predefined testing procedures can reduce certain variations caused by manual operation and provide more standardized conditions for comparing test results across different samples and production batches.

3. Suitable for Filament Quality Control Applications

The equipment can be used to test the crimp shrinkage properties of compatible filament samples, supporting raw material inspection, in-process quality monitoring, and finished-product quality evaluation in fiber manufacturing. The specific applicable samples and test conditions should be determined according to the actual equipment configuration and the relevant test methods.

4. Support for Laboratory Quality Management

Combined with standardized sample identification and test records, the equipment enables the company to organize test data more conveniently, supporting internal quality analysis, production process evaluation, and the preparation of customer quality documentation.

5. Simulated Application Results

In this fictional case scenario, following the introduction of the equipment, the customer gradually transitioned from its previous manual testing methods to a more standardized automated testing workflow. Laboratory personnel reported that daily testing procedures became clearer, repetitive tasks were reduced, and sample test records became easier to organize.

As this is a fictional case study, the above results represent a simulated application scenario and do not constitute performance data verified through actual measurements or confirmed by a real customer.

Key Problems Solved

Data Credibility: The company moved from manually generated data that it lacked confidence in to standardized data that could be reproduced, traced, and issued externally, enabling it to provide supporting evidence when handling customer complaints.

Export Disputes and Claims: Crimp shrinkage and crimp stability were incorporated into batch-by-batch inspection procedures. Nonconforming batches could be identified before shipment, helping prevent price reductions or product returns after delivery.

Production Capacity Bottlenecks: Quality inspection was no longer a bottleneck delaying shipments. Test reports could be issued within the same shift, reducing waiting time for both production and sales teams.

Nonconformities in Customer Audits: Original test curves and complete audit trails provided direct support for second-party audits conducted by European customers. Two previously identified nonconformities had been closed.

Closed-Loop Process Feedback: Continuous test data enabled the process engineering team to identify, for the first time, the relationship between spinning parameters and crimp performance, providing a basis for subsequent differentiated product development.

Customer Feedback

The customer's quality control team commented:

"The Fully Automatic Filament Crimp Shrinkage Tester has provided a new solution for our laboratory testing operations. Compared with our previous methods, the automated testing procedures are clearer and help reduce repetitive manual work. They also make it easier for our testing personnel to organize sample test records.

Following the introduction of the equipment, we plan to further improve our internal testing procedures and associate test results with production batch information to conduct more effective product quality analysis. This equipment investment is worth considering as we continue to improve filament product consistency and laboratory quality management."

Case Summary

This case study illustrates a typical application scenario for a Fully Automatic Filament Crimp Shrinkage Tester in the laboratory of a filament yarn manufacturing company. Through automated testing, standardized operating procedures, and improved data recording, the equipment can support the evaluation of filament crimp shrinkage properties and help the company continuously improve its quality control processes.

For fiber manufacturers, chemical fiber producers, and textile raw material suppliers serving international markets, selecting testing equipment that matches their sample types and testing requirements is an important step toward enhancing laboratory testing capabilities and improving quality management.
