  Product Introduction

The minimum ignition temperature tester is a method for testing the sensitivity of dust clouds to ignition in a heated environment. A large amount of dust diffuses into the heated air, and when the temperature of the air is high enough, it may cause spontaneous combustion. This equipment is used to test the minimum ignition temperature of combustible dust clouds, in accordance with the requirements of IEC 61241-2-1:1994, EN 50281-2-1:1999, and GB/T 16429 "Test Method for Minimum Ignition Temperature of Dust Clouds".

The danger of dust explosion lurks in the operation process of powder processing, and its impact can be catastrophic, leading to huge property damage and posing a serious threat to human life and property. A comprehensive understanding of flammability, ignition sensitivity, and explosion intensity is the key to safe handling of dust. Laboratory testing is an important part of qualitative and quantitative analysis of relevant parameters.

Corresponding protective measures should be taken to reduce the disaster of dust explosions to a controllable range. Dust mixed with air can form a combustible mixture, which is easily ignited when exposed to open flames or high-temperature objects. The combustion process is completed instantly, releasing a large amount of heat energy, causing the combustion gas to suddenly rise and expand rapidly, forming a high expansion pressure. The dust oxidation reaction during combustion is very rapid, and the heat generated can be quickly transferred to adjacent dust, causing a series of chain reactions. Such an explosion will cause huge damage to personnel, property, equipment, and factories.

  Testing process

The minimum ignition temperature test was conducted in the Godbert Greenwald heating furnace. The heating furnace consists of a vertical transparent quartz tube with an open bottom. The top of the quartz tube is a glass observation chamber connected to a horizontally placed sample fixing device. The compressed air from the gas storage tank diffuses the dust into the heating furnace and sample fixing device, and then into the glass observation room and quartz tube. The heating furnace is placed on a bracket and signs of ignition (flame) can be observed from the bottom of the furnace. The test starts at 500 ℃, and if ignition is observed, the temperature is gradually reduced at a rate of 20 ℃ to 300 ℃. If ignition still occurs, gradually reduce the temperature to no ignition state at a rate of 10 ℃.

  Result Description

The minimum temperature of the furnace during ignition (minus 20 ℃ when the furnace temperature is above 300 ℃, minus 10 ℃ when it is equal to or below 300 ℃) is recorded as the minimum ignition temperature of the dust cloud.

The minimum ignition temperature test data information is mainly used to determine whether the surface temperature of factory equipment will cause automatic ignition of diffused dust, and is an important criterion for selecting appropriate equipment in dusty environments. When using minimum ignition temperature test data, it is required to leave a safety limit for uncertain factors in small-scale testing.
